Lakers Lose in 5 to Jefferson

The Lakers lost a tough 5 set match to Jefferson in their first home contest of the 2013 season. Jefferson jumped out to an early 2-0 (15-25, 23-25) set lead in the match, only to have the Lakers fight back to win sets 3 and 4 (25-20, 27-25). Going in to the 5th set the Lakers appeared to have the momentum on their side, but in the end Jefferson prevailed. Both teams battled back and forth and a solo block by Ali Drier brought the Lakers neck and neck with Jefferson at 13-13. Jefferson successfully sided out and served an ace to win the set 15-13 and the match.

Ryenn Smith led the Lakers with 27 kills and 11 digs. Jessie Blumenfeld had 37 assists and 5 aces to pace the offense. Christina Denniston and Bridget Whitehair each had 15 digs a piece and Courtney Bradish chipped in 8 kills and 10 digs.

"I was proud of the fight that we showed in sets 3, 4 and 5. In the end it comes down to execution, we lacked execution at certain points and it gave Jefferson enough of an advantage to win the match," said head coach Matt Barr.

The loss brings the Lakers to 4-5. The Lakers will travel to Monroe Community College tomorrow for a 6 p.m. match.
