Lakers Go 2-1 at Regional POD

HUDSON, NY -- The Finger Lakes Volleyball team took two of three matches on Saturday at the Columbia-Greene Regional POD. They defeated Hudson Valley Community College and Columbia-Greene Community College, 3-0 in both matches, before falling to SUNY Adirondack 3-1. Number 10 ranked Finger Lakes now stands at 7-6 on the season and 3-1 in regional play.

The Lakers got out to a fast start on the day, topping in Vikings of Hudson Valley 25-4, 25-9, 25-8. Ryenn Smith led the Lakers with 13 kills in the match. Courtney Bradish added 7 while hitting a 40% kill percentage, which led the team. 

In the second match of the day, Finger Lakes faced the host Columbia-Greene Twins. The Lakers won the three set affair 25-4, 28-8, 25-6. The offensive standout for the Lakers was Jessie Blumenfeld. The freshman setter from Webster Thomas added 14 points to go with her 9 assists. Blumenfeld had 3 kills on 5 attempts and recorded 11 aces. The aces were the most in a game over the past two seasons for the Lakers.

The final match of the day came against SUNY Adirondack. The Timberwolves took the match 25-21, 27-25, 23-25, 26-24. The Lakers were in every set in a match that could have gone either way. Smith and Blumenfeld once again led the Lakers offense. Ryenn Smith recorded 16 kills and Jessie Blumenfeld had 28 assists. Smith also added 22 digs and sophomore libero Christina Denniston backed her up with 18. Bridget Whitehair had a 40% kill percentage and added 12 digs and a pair of aces for the Lakers.

Finger Lakes will return to the court on Wednesday with a Mid-State Athletic Conference matchup against Cayuga Community College. The match against the Spartans will be held in Auburn, NY and is scheduled for a 6pm start.
