Lakers Sweep Spartans

AUBURN, NY -- The Finger Lakes Volleyball team defeated host Cayuga Community College on Wednesday by set scores of 25-10, 25-12, 25-5. The Lakers jumped out to early leads in all three sets to get the win. It was the Lakers first Mid-State Athletic Conference win on the season. They now hold a conference record of 1-2, and are 8-6 overall on the season.

Offensively for the Lakers, Ryenn Smith had 8 kills, and 3 aces. Smith also led all defenders with 10 digs and Ali Drier had two solo blocks. Jessie Blumenfeld paced the offense with 12 assists and 2 aces. Morgan Carr led all servers with a team-high 4 aces for the Lakers.

"It was great to see everyone contribute tonight to get our first conference win," said head coach Matt Barr. "We served aggressively and we stayed disciplined on our side."

The Lakers will travel to Monroe Community College this Saturday, 9/21 for regional pod play. The Lakers will face off against Cayuga Community College, Onondaga Community College, and Jefferson Community College. Their first match of the day is scheduled for 11:45 a.m.
