Strong Showing for Lakers at MCC POD

ROCHESTER, NY -- The Finger Lakes Volleyball team took two of three matches on Saturday at the Region III POD hosted at Monroe Community College. They won the opening match against Cayuga Community College 3-0. Onondaga Community College would beat the Lakers 3-1 in the second match, but Finger Lakes would bounce back and defeat Jefferson Community College 3-0 in the final match of the day. 

Finger Lakes opened the day against the Cayuga Spartans. The Lakers contolled the match and won it by the set scores of 25-13, 25-8, 25-9. The service game helped the Lakers stay ahead in the match. Bridget Whitehair had a career-high seven aces for the Lakers. Morgan Carr backed her up with her second straight four ace performance. Ryenn Smith added 11 kills and 6 digs.

The second match for the Lakers was a back and forth affair with the Lazers of Onondaga Community College. Finger Lakes would lose the 4-set match, 23-25, 25-16, 11-25, 23-25. Ryenn Smith had 20 kills and 23 digs in the loss. It was her sixth double-double of the year. Jessie Blumenfeld had 29 assists and Christina Denniston had 19 digs, a season-high for her.

After losing two matches to Jefferson Community College early in the year, Finger Lakes defeated the Cannoneers to end the day by the scores of 25-21, 27-25, 25-19. Denniston had another strong game for the Lakers with 17 digs. Ryenn Smith had 17 kills, most were off of Blumenfeld's 26 assists. Morgan Carr continued her serving streak with 5 aces.

The Lakers are now 10-7 on the season, and 5-2 in Region III play. The Lakers travel to Corning Community College on Wednesday to face the Red Barons. Corning is currently ranked 2nd in the Region III Coaches Poll. The match between the Lakers and Red Barons is scheduled to start at 6pm.
