Lakers Win in Three Against Broome Community College

CANANDAIGUA, NY--The Finger Lakes women's volleyball team beat conference opponent Broome Community college in three (25-7, 25-22, 25-22). The win puts the Lakers at 14-9 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

In the first set the Lakers jumped out to an early 9 point lead by a score of 13-4. The Lakers would roll to the first set win 25-9. Ali Drier helped lead the Lakers in the first set with a pair of kills and a block assist.  

The Hornets started off the second set with a 5-2 lead.  Finger Lakes would rally to take a 7-6 lead before Broome would stop the run. With the match tied at 11, Courtney Bradish would have a kill between two Broome blockers to give the Lakers the edge in the set. Finger Lakes would widen the set lead to 18-13. With Finger Lakes holding a one point lead in the set, 19-18, they would take advantage of two straight Hornet errors. The Lakers would score, and another Hornet error widened the margin to 23-18. Both teams continued to battle and Ali Drier recorded the kill to take the second set 25-22.

Broome would once again jump out early in the third set, building a 7-3 lead.  A Laker timeout and subsequent point would break the run for the Hornets. However Broome would maintain the pressure and grew their lead to 12-6. Finger Lakes was able to fight back and draw the match even at 16. The Lakers took control of the set to build a 23-19 lead. On match point, Broome would hit the ball into the net for the 25-22 set win, and the overall match win 3-0.

Ali Drier had 8 kills and no errors to give her a .667 hitting percentage on the night. Ryenn Smith contributed 10 kills and 17 digs, while Courtney Bradish had 5 kills and 8 digs. Jessie Blumenfeld had 25 assists, 2 aces and 12 digs. Blumenfeld now has 50 aces on the season.

The Lakers will travel to Herkimer County Community College this Saturday, October 5th for Regional POD play. At the POD the Lakers will face off against Herkimer County Community College, Fulton-Montgomery Community College and Mohawk Valley Community College.
