Lakers Go 2-1 at Herkimer POD

HERKIMER, NY--The Lakers had a strong showing at the Herkimer POD going 2-1 on the day. The Lakers fell to the Herkimer Generals in five (25-22, 25-17, 16-25, 26-28, 7-15) after jumping out to an early two set lead. The Lakers were able to rally to beat the Fulton-Montomery Raiders in four (25-12, 25-22, 16-25, 25-17) and the Mohawk Valley Hawks in three (25-17, 25-13, 25-11).

The Lakers led 2-0 in the match versus Herkimer only to lose the three remaining sets to lose the match. Ryenn Smith and Courtney Bradish were a solid duo on the outside with 16 kills and 15 kills respectively. Jessie Blumenfeld connected with attackers for 34 assists. The Lakers had 4 players with double digit digs with Ryenn Smith contributing 17, Christina Denniston contributing 14, Jessie Blumenfeld contributing 12 and Courtney Bradish contributing 11.

The Lakers were able to turn things around against Fulton-Montgomery Community College where Ryenn Smith's 28 kill performance set a Finger Lakes women's volleyball record for total kills in a match. Smith also led all defenders with 20 digs. The Lakers won in four with Courtney Bradish rounding out the offensive attack with 12 kills. Ali Drier and Bridget Whitehair chipped in 4 kills a piece as well. Jessie Blumenfeld contributed 37 assists and 11 digs. The Lakers had another strong defensive performance with Christina Denniston contributing 14 digs, Courtney Bradish contributing 10, and Bridget Whitehair contributing 11 digs on the match.

The Lakers finished strong with a win against Mohawk Valley Community College to give them a 2-1 record on the day. Ryenn Smith led all attackers and defenders again with 13 kills and 16 digs. Ali Drier had 10 kills and 2 solo blocks for the Lakers. Blumenfed contributed 21 assists and 3 aces.

The Lakers will play conference opponent Tompkins Cortland Community College on Wednesday, October 9th at 6 p.m. on their home court. This match is the last regular season conference match for the Lakers where they currently sit at 2-3.
