Lakers sweep at Corning POD

CORNING, NY--The Finger Lakes women's volleyball team finished regular season play by going 3-0 at the Corning POD. The Lakers defeated Broome Community College (25-20, 25-18, 25-20), Tompkins Cortland Community College (25-12, 25-10, 25-6) and SUNY Delhi (25-11, 25-11, 25-15) all in three sets.

During the match against Broome Community College, Ryenn Smith contributed 13 kills and 13 digs. Courtney Bradish contributed 8 kills and 11 digs. Ali Drier rounded out the offense with 6 kills and Jessie Blumenfeld contributed 27 assists.

During the match against Tompkins Cortland Community College, the Lakers built early leads in all three sets that led to the win. Smith led attackers with 15 kills, with Bradish and Drier chipping in 6 kills a piece. Blumenfeld contributed 26 assists and 3 aces.

During the match against SUNY Delhi, Smith had her best game of the day with 23 kills and 11 digs. Courtney Bradish had another solid performance with 6 kills, 4 aces and 10 digs. Ali Drier contributed 10 kills on 18 attempts. Jessie Blumenfeld set a well balanced offense and contributed 34 assists. Bridget Whitehair contributed 9 digs.

"I was very pleased with our overall performance today", said head coach Matt Barr. "It is always our goal to go 3-0 at every POD and we were able to achieve that today".

The Lakers have qualified for the Mid-State Athletic Conference tournament and will travel back to Corning Community College next Saturday, October 26th. They will face off against Corning Community College in the semi-final round at 10 a.m. Finals are scheduled for 2 p.m.
