Lakers go 3-6 at Region III Division III Tournament to End Season

SANBORN, NY--The Lakers did not advance past the pool play round at the Division III, Region III Tournament hosted by Niagara County Community College. Deciding sets were not played during the pool play round, with each match consisting of 3 sets to 25. The Lakers went 1-2 against all of their opponents, giving them an overall record of 3-6. That record placed them in the bottom two of their pool and therefore they did not advance.

The Lakers faced Adirondack Community College in the first match of the day. Adirondack won sets one and three with the Lakers taking the second (19-25, 25-15, 17-25). Ryenn Smith had 14 kills and 7 digs during the match. Courtney Bradish chipped in 7 kills and 6 digs. Jessie Blumenfeld had 18 assists and Mary Beth Schram contributed 9 digs.

In the second match of the day, the Lakers had a repeat performance losing sets one and three and winning set two (11-25, 25-13, 18-25). Smith had 12 kills and 11 digs, Bradish had 7 kills and 5 digs. Ali Drier had a solid performance with 4 kills and 9 digs. Jessie Blumenfeld had 21 assists and 1 service ace.

In the last match of the day the Lakers took the first set and dropped the last two (25-22, 20-25, 23-25) to Herkimer County Community College. Smith had 15 kills and 7 digs, and Bradish had 11 kills and 5 digs. Drier rounded out the offense with 7 kills. Blumenfeld contributed 32 assists.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Ryenn Smith was named to the All-Tournament team. Overall, the Lakers finished their season with a 26-16 record, which included a Mid-State Athletic Conference Tournament win. Freshmen Jessie Blumenfeld currently holds the program record for most assists and most aces in a season and  freshmen Ryenn Smith currently holds the program record for most kills in a season.

"It was disappointing that we were not able to advance to the semi-final round, but I am very proud of this team and the accomplishments that we have had over the course of the season," said head coach Matt Barr.
