Finger Lakes Hosts Weekend POD

The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Volleyball team hosted the Finger Lakes POD last Saturday.  Six teams participated in the POD including: Tompkins Cortland Community College, Broome County Community College, Monroe Community College, Corning Community College, Genesee Community College and the host Finger Lakes Community College.  The Lakers played against Broome, Corning and TC3, winning 2 out of the 3 matches.

The first match of the day was against Tompkins Cortland Community College.  The Lakers win in three sets by scores of 25-10, 25-12 and 25-19.  Finger Lakes attacking force is what gave them the quick win over the Panthers.  They were led by McKenna Guarasce who had 8 kills in the match.  Celyna Levesque and Audra Beechler contributed with 5 kills each.  Melissa Reach had 5 aces against the Panthers.  Aubrey Davis and Brianne Avary rounded out the offensive attack with 10 and 9 assists, respectively.  

The Second match of the day was against Broome Community College.  This was a hard faught match that took all five sets with the Lakers pulling out on top 3-2 over the Hornets.  "The match vs Broome was one of the most exciting matches of the year. We fought off two match points in the fourth set and won a marathon 5 set victory. Everyone on the team played a role as we are starting to peak at the right time" - Coach Matt Barr.  The Lakers attacked the Hornets defense hard led by McKenna Guarasce and Celyna Levesque who both had 13 kills.  Brianne Avary recorded 21 assists for the Lakers.  Katee Martinez held the Lakers defense together with 23 digs in the match.  

The final match of the day for the Lakers was against the Red Barons from Corning Community College, who earlier in the day knocked off undefeated Monroe Community College.  The Red Barons would take the match in four sets by scores of 25-11, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-21.  The Lakers attack was led again by McKenna Guarasce with 12 kills in the match.  She would have 33 kills on the day.  Brianne Avary would continue to assist the Lakers offense with 17. Katee Martinez had 20 digs against the Red Barons high powered attacking force.  

The Lakers will play their final regular season match of the year this Wednesday, 10/21 as the travel to Rochester.  They will face 7th ranked Monroe Community College.  The match is set to begin at 6pm.
