On Sophomore Night, Lakers Finish Regular Season Undefeated at Home

Canandaigua, NY -- The women's volleyball team set a new program record on Wednesday night after defeating the Tribunes from Monroe Community College and finishing their regular season schedule undefeated at home.  

This marks the first time in program history the Lakers ended their regular season without a home loss, which couldn't come on a better night than on sophomore night! The sophomores recognized at Wednesday's contest were Jamie Treat, Melissa Resch, Brianne Avery, Katie DeJonge, McKenna Guarasce, Madison Joseph, and Katee Martinez.  

The Lakers defeated the Tribunes in four closely contested sets: 25-21, 19-25, 25-19, and 25-23. Madison Joseph ignited the Lakers attack, finishing with 17 kills and 18 digs.  Katie DeJonge and Lindsay Howell finished with ten kills and eight kills, respectively.  DeJonge would add 11 digs.  Katee Martinez added 26 digs to her career total of 973.  Brianne Avery and Taiya Iniguez had 19 assists and 17 assists, respectively.  They each added 11 digs apiece.  

Following their victory over Monroe Community College, the Lakers enter the NJCAA Region III postseason tournament as the fourth seed.  The tournament will be held at Niagara County Community College on October 29 and 30.  Prior to the Region III tournament, the Lakers will compete in the Mid-State Athletic Conference tournament on October 22 at Jefferson Community College.  The third seeded Lakers will face the second seeded Hornets from Broome Community College in the semi-finals match.  The winner will face the winner of the Jefferson CC vs. Onondaga CC game in the MSAC Championship.
