Volleyball Dominates in Day One of Regional Tournament

SANBORN, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Volleyball team travelled to Niagara County Community College this past weekend for the NJCAA Region III Regional Tournament. The Lakers were in Pool A competing against Onondaga Community College, SUNY Adirondack Community College, and Jamestown Community College on Saturday.

Match One

The Lakers faced the Onondaga Community College Lazers in the first match of the Regional Tournament. The Lakers came out on top of all three sets. The Lazers gave them a good fight in the first two sets with scores of 25-23, and 28-26. The Lakers were ready to finish the match in the third set and came out with a higher margin score of 25-16.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Rachel Simmons with 13 kills, and four blocks, Kady Pierce with 27 assists, Alyssa Fox with 12 kills, and one service ace, Megan Gass with 20 digs, and one service ace, and Blake Morrison with four blocks.

Match Two

The second match of the day for the Lakers was against the SUNY Adirondack Timber Wolves. It was a hot start for the Lakers. They won the first set 25-17. The Timber Wolves would come back and give them a fight in the last two sets. The Lakers came out on top in the last two. The scores were 25-22 for both of them

Game leaders for the Lakers were Simmons with 24 kills, and two service aces, Pierce with 41 assists, Gass with 23 digs, and two service aces, and Morrison with two blocks.

Match Three

The final match of the day for the Lakers was against the Jamestown Community College Jayhawks. This match went into three sets, with FLCC going 2-1. The Lakers took the first set 25-20, and won the second set by a big margin, 25-11. The Lakers would then drop their final set 25-19.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Simmons with 25 kills, three service aces, and one block, Pierce with 39 assists, Gass with 20 digs, Morrison with on block, Fox with one block, Lacey Schneider with one block, and Anna Eichhorn with one block.

 

The Lakers would move on to the Region III Pool A Championship on Sunday.
