Volleyball Takes First Loss of the Season

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Volleyball team played their first home game of the season on Wednesday night. The Lakers had their first loss of the season to the Jefferson Community College Cannoneers, 3-1.

The Lakers took the first set. Each team was neck and neck with the score until both teams hit 18. The Lakers hit a hot streak and finished out the set. The set ended 25-18.

The second set started out really well for the Lakers. They started strong with a 4-0 lead. They couldn't quite get another streak like that. Jefferson took that over and put themselves in a big lead. The final score of the second set was 25-17.

The third set was a photo finish. Both teams went back and forth. The last points had the entire gym on edge. The Cannoneers took the set 25-23.

The fourth and final set went to the Cannoneers where they finished out the match, 25-19.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Katie Harmon with 21 kills, Kady Pierce with 25 assists, Marie Rogers and Kellie Johnson with three service aces, Brookelyn Kunzer with 25 digs, and Brandy Morrison with 4 blocks.

The Lakers will be competing at the Jefferson Community College Invitational on Saturday, September 7th. They will play Fulton-Montgomery Community College, and Monroe Community College.
