Volleyball Clean Sweeps Monroe Community College POD

BRIGHTON, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Volleyball team competed in the Monroe Community College Volleyball POD on Saturday. They played Cayuga Community College, Onondaga Community College, and Jefferson Community College. The Lakers finished the day going 3-0.

Match One

The Cayuga Community College Spartans played their best against the Lakers in the first set. The Lakers had 11 kills, seven errors, and 29 total attack attempts. The Spartans had two kills, three errors and 13 total attack attempts. The Lakers took the first set 25-19.

In set number two the Lakers had nine kills, seven errors, and 23 total attack attempts. The Spartans had four kills, six errors, and fifteen total attack attempts. The Lakers took this one too with a score of 25-16.

In the third and final set of the match, the Lakers had 10 kills, four errors, and 26 total attack attempts. The Spartans had two kills, two errors, and 20 total attack attempts. The Lakers won 25-12. They had a clean sweep of a match.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Sydney Passalacqua with 10 kills, Marie Rogers with five service aces, and seven digs, Kady Pierce with thirteen assists, and Morgan Testa and Brandy Morrison with three blocks.

Match Two

In the second match of the day, the Lakers faced the Onondaga Community College Lazers. In set one the Lakers had 14 kills, three errors, and 39 total attack attempts. They won 25-17.

In set number two, the Lakers had 10 kills, five errors, and 34 total attack attempts. The Lakers won this one by only two points, 25-23.

In the final set of the match the Lakers had 15 kills, five errors, and 41 total attack attempts. The Lazers stayed close, but couldn't quite get the lead. The Laker won this one 26-24. They went 3-0 again.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Morrison with 12 kills and two blocks, Rogers with four service aces and 1 digs, Katie Harmon with seven kills and 11 digs, and Brookelyn Kunzer with 34 assists.

Match Three

The third and final match of the day was against the Jefferson Community College Cannoneers. The Lakers have struggled against them in previous games played earlier in the season.

In the first set, the Lakers had 17 kills, six errors, and 40 total attack attempts. The Lakers had to go into extra points, but won it 26-24.

In the second set, the Lakers had 12 kills, seven errors, and 33 total attack attempts. The Lakers won by a much favorable margin, 25-17.

In the final set of the match, and the day, the Lakers had nine kills, three errors, and 36 total attack attempts. The Lakers won 25-21, sweeping the Cannoneers 3-0. They clean swept day.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Harmon with 21 kills, Kunzer with 37 assists and 13 digs, Kellie Johnson with three service aces, Allison Emmick with 13 digs, and Testa with two blocks.

The Lakers will play next at home on September 25th. They will play SUNY Broome Community College at 6:00pm.
