Volleyball Goes 2-2 at Cara Bryant Tournament

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Volleyball team competed in the Cara Bryant Volleyball Tournament on Saturday. They played SUNY Broome Community College, Cayuga Community College, Onondaga Community College, and SUNY Broome again. They went 2-2 on the weekend.

Match One

The first match of the day was against the SUNY Broome CC Hornets. The Hornets forced the best two of out three match into three sets. The hornets came out on top winning 2-1.

In set one the Lakers had 10 kills, five errors, and 41 total attack attempts. In set two the Lakers had one kill, six errors, and 27 total attack attempts. In the final set, the Lakers had four kills, two errors, and 22 total attack attempts.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Katie Harmon with six kills, on service ace, and 11 digs, Brandy Morrison with six kills, Brookelyn Kunzer with one kill and 15 assists, and Allison Emmick with one kill, one service ace, and 16 digs.

Match Two

The second match of the day was against the Cayuga CC Spartans. After dropping the first set, the Lakers forced the match to go into three again, and won it, 2-1.

In set one the Lakers had six kills, one error, and 18 total attack attempts. The Spartans had seven kills, one error, and 28 total attack attempts.

In set two the Lakers had eight kills, nine errors, and 37 total attack attempts. The Spartans had three kills, three errors, and 21 total attack attempts.

In the final set the Lakers had nine kills, four errors, and 22 total attack attempts. The Spartand had four kills, four errors, and 16 total attack attempts.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Morrison with 14 kills, one dig, and one block, Kady Pierce with two service aces and three digs, and Kunzer with 23 asssts and six digs.

Match Three

The third match of the day was against the hosts of the tournament, the Onondaga CC Lazers. The Lakers swept this match 2-0.

In the first set the Lakers had 12 kills, eight errors, and 40 total attack attempts. In the second set the Lakers had 14 kills, five errors, and 39 total attack attempts.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Morrison with 11 kills, Harmon with eight kills and four digs, Kunzer with 24 assists, and Kellie Johnson with two service aces and nine digs.

Match Four

The final match of the day was against the SUNY Broome CC Hornets again. This time the Lakers could not get a set win. They lost 2-0.

In the first set the Lakers had nine kills, three errors, and 26 total attack attempts. In the final set the Lakers had 15 kills, five errors, and 42 total attack attempts.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Harmon with nine kills and six digs, Kunzer with 21 assists and six digs, and Johnson with 12 digs.

The Lakers will travel to Monroe Community College on Tuesday, October 15th. They will play at 6:00pm.
