#4 Lakers Remain Undefeated After Road Win

WATERTOWN, N.Y. - The #4 ranked Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball team improved to 6-0 Tuesday evening with a win on the road against the Jefferson Community College Cannoneers. The loss marked back-to-back for the Cannoneers, while the Lakers have yet to lose a set since returning to regional play on August 29th.

A notable aspect of the match was a standout performance from sophomore Brooke DeGroff (Castile, N.Y./ Letchworth) who racked up an impressive 11 kills on an efficient .588 kill percentage. Joining DeGroff with another strong match on offense was Bloomfield native Payton Stoddard (Bloomfield, N.Y./ Bloomfield) who accumulated 33 assists over 3 sets, directing the team's offensive tempo. Stoddard would go on to show her two-way abilities, adding 7 digs and 2 block assists to her tally on the defensive end of play.

Complementing the Lakers' offensive attack were freshman teammates Leah Williams (Olean, N.Y./ Olean) and Kiane Wells (Webster, N.Y./ Webster Thomas) who added 8 and 6 kills respectively. Besides contributing 4 kills, freshman Bridget Miller (Seneca Falls, N.Y./ Mynderse) made her presence felt in the back row with a career-high 11 digs. The Lakers' team synergy continues to grow as they add another impressive win to their season total.

The Lakers return to the hardwood this Saturday, September 9th when the team travels to Fulton-Montgomery Community College for a NJCAA Region III Pod. The Lakers will have their hands full with a pair of anticipating matchups, first against the Raiders of Fulton-Montgomery who currently rank #14 in the country and hold a record of 2-0. The team will follow one of the best matches in NJCAA Region III that weekend with a rematch against the SUNY Jefferson Cannoneers who will look to avenge today's loss.
