Women's Volleyball Remains Undefeated at Home

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball team advanced to 10-1 Tuesday night after sweeping the Corning Community College Red Barons on the Lakers home court. The Mid-State Athletic Conference opponent entered the match with a single win under their belt, and the Laker took advantage of the opportunity to extend their win streak to 4 and maintain their undefeated home record.

Freshman Jordan Winton (Sherburne, N.Y./ Sherburne-Earlville) stood talk in the Lakers attack, delivering 8 kills from 12 attempts for a strong .500 hitting percentage. Not far behind, teammates Leah Williams (Olean, N.Y./ Olean) and Brooke DeGroff (Castile, N.Y./ Letchworth) contributed 5 and 4 kills respectively. DeGroff shined on the service line, delivering 4 aces in the process. 

While the Lakers excelled in the attack, the team's overall serving effort was the higlight of the match. Freshman Michelina Williams (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) led the way with an impressive 7 service aces, closely followed by Kierstin Comerford (Geneva, N.Y./ Geneva) who added 5 aces of her hown.

Sophomore Payton Stoddard (Bloomfield, N.Y./ Bloomfield) continued her role as the primary playmaker, distributing 21 assists throughout the match, while also chipping in with 2 kills. Defensively, Molly Goulette (Newark, N.Y./ Newark)Bridget Miller (Seneca Falls, N.Y./ Mynderse), and Michelina Williams each helped ward off the Red Barons attack with 3, 4, and 4 digs respectively.

The team is back on the road for their next match, this time making a trip to Binghamton, N.Y. for the SUNY Broome NJCAA Region III Pod. The Lakers will take on the host Hornets at 5 PM, followed with a rematch against the Red Barons at 7 PM.
