Lakers Soar to #6 in National Rankings Heading into Regional Tournament

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The most recent NJCAA Division III women's volleyball national rankings have put the Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball team up to #6, their highest ranking since week 1 which saw them sit at #4. The Lakers improved to 22-1 this past weekend after sweeping the Mid-State Athletic Conference Championship with wins over Genesee Community College and SUNY Broome Community College.

Now, the Lakers next stop will be the NJCAA Region III tournament in which they have earned the #2 seed. The Lakers will open the tournament with a semifinal match againt the #7-seeded Hudson Valley Community College Vikings at Niagara County Community College on Saturday, October 28th at 11 AM. The two teams met earlier in the regular season at the FLCC Region III pod on September 3rd and the Lakers swept the visiting Vikings, 3-0. With a win, the Lakers would move on to their third-consecutive NJCAA Region III Championship match and will look to claim their third-straight NJCAA Region III Championship and NJCAA Division III National Tournament appearance.

The Lakers would play a championship match against the #3-seeded Erie Community College Kats or the #6-seeded SUNY Broome Community College Hornets if they were to advance. The Lakers met the Kats once during the regular season, defeating them 3-0 while they have faced the Hornets 3 times and have come away with 3-0 sweeps in all three meetings.
