Bio

Coach Solomon enters his sixth season as the head coach of the Finger Lakes women’s volleyball program. The 2018 Lakers finished 26-12 (.684), going 8-0 at home and 5-2 in conference play. They made their deepest run at the NJCAA Region III tournament, dropping a tough match in the finals. In addition, they captured their first-ever championship at the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament. Freshman Rachel Simmons was selected as an All-American, becoming the first All-American in FLCC women's volleyball program history. 

In 2019, Solomon's Lakers posted a 20-15 record, including 5-1 in conference play before falling in the NJCAA Region III Tournament. His Lakers have gone 46-27 (.630) in his two seasons on campus.

In 2021, Solomon and the Lakers made history by winning the NJCAA Region III Championship. Solomon, who was named the NJCAA Region III, District A Coach of the Year led the Lakers to their first NJCAA Division III National Championship appearance where the Lakers would finish 7th in the nation. The Lakers were led by NJCAA Division III All-American Brandy Morrison who Solomon had the honor of coaching from 2019 through 2022 (the 2020 season was canceled due to COVID-19).

At the 2022 Athletic Banquet, Solomon was named FLCC Athletics Coach of the Year after the 5th-year head coach led the Lakers to a historic finish. Under Solomon, the Lakers would have another historic campaign during the fall 2022 season. The Lakers earned a spot in the NJCAA Region III tournament, making a trip to the finals for a second-straight season and would capture the NJCAA Region III, Division B championship. The Lakers would earn their spot in the NJCAA Division III women's volleyball national tournament, earning the 10th seed. The Lakers pulled off a first-round upset over #7 Sandhills Community College to advance to the next round.

The Lakers would conclude their second-straight NJCAA Division III national tournament appearance as the 7th-ranked team in the nation. The Lakers were led by NJCAA Division III All-Americans Brooke DeGroff (First Team) and Meghan Johnson (Honorable Mention).

In 2023, Solomon led the innagural men's volleyball program at FLCC to a historic finish in the sports innagural season in the NJCAA as well. The FLCC men's volleyball team would go on to claim the NJCAA National Invitational Championship with a massive upset over the Monroe College Mustangs who the Lakers had fallen to twice previously in the regular season. As a result, Solomon would earn NJCAA men's volleyball Coach of the Year honors. 

Before FLCC, Solomon was the head coach of the perennial powerhouse, Penfield girls’ volleyball team. His Penfield teams captured the Class AA New York State Championships in 2016 and 2011 and were NYS Finalists in 2014. Between 2010 and 2016, his teams were Monroe County Division I Champions for 7 straight years and made it to the Section V Finals in 6 of 7 years. Solomon was named the All-Greater Rochester Coach of the Year in 2016 and 2011. Solomon coached three Under Armour All-Americans and one PrepVolleyball Academic All-American during his time at Penfield.

Earlier in his career, Coach Solomon piloted the Pittsford Sutherland (1999-2005) and Mount Mercy of Buffalo (1994-1997) girls’ varsity volleyball teams, winning 5 Monroe County Championships and 1 Monsignor Martin Championship along the way.

Solomon has a combined collegiate and high school career record of 510-124 (.804).  

A native of Springville, NY, Solomon is a K-5 Physical Education Teacher at Harris Hill Elementary School in Penfield. 

He is a 1994 graduate of the University at Buffalo (B.A. Media Study) and a 1999 graduate of SUNY College at Brockport (M.S. Adapted Physical Education).   

He has been on staff for the “Dreams For The Heart” camp for children with congenital heart disease, for the past 23 summers.

Solomon resides in Penfield with his wife, Jennifer and sons Jordan and Justin, and daughter Olivia.
