The Finger Lakes Community College department of athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Maddy Joseph as the Lakers’ next assistant coach for the women’s volleyball team.

Joseph, who played collegiately for both FLCC and Nazareth College, joins head coach Andrew Solomon’s coaching staff for the fall 2021 season.

In her first season as an assistant coach, Joseph helped lead the Lakers to the program's first-ever NJCAA Region III championship, and ultimately the program's first national championship appearance where the Lakers would earn a 7th place finish.

“Maddy is awesome. She brings a great amount of coaching experience and a wealth of knowledge to our team,” Solomon said. “Since she has played at both the junior college and the Division III levels, Maddy can really connect with our student-athletes, and they can learn from her what it takes to play at both this level and the next level. We’re thrilled to have her on the staff.”

After playing volleyball for one season at Houghton College, Joseph transferred to FLCC and played one season of volleyball for the Lakers. During her 2016 season, she was named a Mid-State Athletic Conference (MSAC) All-Star and earned second-team Region 3 honors after leading the Lakers with 277 kills and a .259 hitting percentage while adding 349 digs, 44 aces, and 38 blocks.

Joseph, who also played two seasons of softball at FLCC, transferred to Nazareth, where she was an honorable mention All-Empire 8 selection in 2017. During two seasons with the Golden Flyers (2017 and 2018), Joseph amassed 581 kills with 456 digs, 65 service aces, and 39 blocks. During her senior season, the Golden Flyers won the Empire 8 championship, thanks in part to 17 kills from Joseph in the championship match.

Joseph, who earned her master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Nazareth in 2021, works as an occupational therapist at a local hospital in the Finger Lakes. She graduated from Honeoye Falls-Lima High School in 2015 and was a three-time team MVP and first-team Monroe County League all-star.
