Calder, Lester Headed to Nationals for Lakers Cross Country

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y.The Finger Lakes Community College men's and women's cross country teams were at home for their final meet on the Bruce Bridgeman Course in the 2023 season. After traveling to Painted Post, N.Y. last weekend to compete in the Mid-State Athletic Conference Championships, the Lakers were in prime championship form.

It was the women's race that would highlight the day for the Lakers, as freshman Megan Calder (Victor, N.Y./Victor) earned a 7th place finish in the meet, her 3rd top-10 finish this season, with a time of 24:19.5. Calder improves her previous PR on the Bruce Bridgeman Course, which was earned at the Bruce Bridgeman Invitational in September, by nearly a minute. With the finish, Calder earned NJCAA Region III All-Region honors and a trip to compete in the NJCAA Division III National Championship in Huntsville, Alabama.

Following Calder from FLCC in the women's race was classmate Annaliece Kreuzer (Sodus, N.Y./Sodus) who finished with a time of 37:51.1.

On the men's side, freshman Zachary Lester (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) followed up an impressive showing at the Mid-State Athletic Conference Championships with a top-12 finish in the race. Lester clocked in at 31:29.9 to earn his 2nd-highest finish this season. Lester will join Calder as the Lakers' representative on the men's side at the NJCAA Division III National Championship.

Sophomore Noah Mattison (Marion, N.Y./Marion) would cross the finish line for the last time donning the Lakers blue and green on the Bruce Bridgeman Course, earning a strong finish in his final race.

Calder and Lester will look to make their mark on the national stage on November 11th at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Alabama as they continue their postseason run.
