Lakers Make First Trip Since 2016 to Regional Championship Game

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The FLCC women's soccer team will make a trip to Genesee Community College Saturday afternoon for the NJCAA Region III, Division A championship; their first appearance since 2016. The team punched their ticket Tuesday, October 25th in a thrilling double overtime comeback victory over Herkimer County Community College. After trailing 2-1 heading into the break, the Lakers would punch in the tying goal in regulation to force overtime. After a scoreless first overtime, the Lakers would head to a second. With a little over a minute left on the clock, Sophomore Halee Passarell (Holley, N.Y./ Holley) and Allie Bowe (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) completed a give-and-go, freeing Bowe up for a cross to teammate Ella Lewis (Lyndonville, N.Y./ Lyndonville) who would score the golden goal to seal the match and move the Lakers on to the championship game.

The Lakers will face a tall task on Saturday at Genesee Community College, with a matchup against the NJCAA Region III #1 seeded Mohawk Valley Community College Hawks. Overall, the Hawks are #3 in the NJCAA Division III women's soccer ranking, boasting a record of 13-0 heading into the game. The game will serve as a rematch between the two teams, as the Hawks would defeat the Lakers on October 3rd, 8-0. Despite the lopsided result in the two teams first meeting, the Lakers have continued to improve throughout the year, and enter the match with momentum on their side.
