Women's Soccer Earns Runner-Up Finish in Regionals

BATAVIA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's soccer season came to an end Saturday, October 29th at Genesee Community College in their matchup with the Mohawk Valley Community College Hawks. The Lakers battled to an 11-1 finish in favor of the #1-seeded Hawks who will now advance to the NJCAA Division III women's soccer national tournament and represent Region III. 

The Hawks scored early and often in the match, punching in 6 1st-half goals. In the 81st minute of the match, sophomore Ella Lewis (Lyndonville, N.Y./ Lyndonville) would break open the scoring for the Lakers, punching in a goal unassisted. Lewis would finish with 5 total shots with 4 shots on goal. Sophomore Morgan Collazo (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) ended the match with 1 shot on goal, which nearly put the Lakers on the board in the 1st minute of the match, but was saved by Hawks goalie Hannah Pcola.

The Hawks finished the match with 23 shots on goal and Lakers sophomore Grace Hall (Honeoye, N.Y./ Honeoye) would make 12 saves against the opposition. 

Freshman Ella Lewis and sophomore Morgan Collazo were named to the NJCAA Region III All-Tournament team for their strong play over the entirety of the tournament. Lewis would finish the season with 25 goals and 2 assists (52 points), while Collazo picked up 4 goals and 2 assists (10 points) from the midfield/defensive position.

Despite the disappointing loss at the end of the season, the Lakers return several key starters for next year, with a goal of returning to the championship game.
