Volleyball Starts Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament 2-0

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Volleyball team had a great start to their weekend at the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament at Onondaga Community College. They played their first match against the Cayuga Community College Spartans and won 2-0. They played the SUNY Broome Community College Hornets for their final match of the day, and won 2-1.

Match One

The Lakers came into the tournament ready to play for the first match. They swept the Spartans 2-0. The first set, they won 25-3. They won the second set 25-9.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Rachel Simmons with nine kills, Megan Gass with seven digs, Kady Pierce with 11 service aces and 14 assists, and Alyssa Fox and Haydn Carr with one block.

Match Two

The Hornets gave the Lakers more of a fight. In the first set, they made it clear it wouldn't be as much of a breeze as the Laker's first match. It was a tight set with final score of 25-21, with the Lakers winning. The second set became a lot tougher, and the Hornets took it, 25-18. It was still a tough match, but the Lakers came out with the match win, winning the third set 15-12.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Simmons with 18 kills, Pierce with two service aces, and 25 assists, Gass with 28 digs, and Simmons and Blake Morrison with two blocks.
