CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College baseball team traveled to Cayuga Community College Wednesday afternoon, and the Lakers earned their second consecutive doubleheader sweep.
FLCC (5-1) picked up an 8-2 win in the opener, then completed the sweep with a 4-0 shutout of the Spartans (0-6).
In game one, freshman Jim Marasco (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a pair of stolen bases, freshman Drew Bailey (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) was 3-for-4 with two RBI, two stolen bases and two runs scored.
Freshman Grant Rodriguez (Henrietta, NY/Rush Henrietta) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, and freshman Ryan C. Smith (Fairport, NY/Fairport) drove in a pair of runs for FLCC, which tacked on four runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
Sophomore Lukas Haefner (Henrietta, NY/Rush Henrietta) allowed one run on four hits over 4 1/3 innings with four strikeouts to earn the win.
In the nightcap, freshman Justin Kuebel (Hilton, NY/Hilton) allowed four hits with five strikeouts over four shutout innings to earn the win while sophomore Alex Savory (Sodus, NY/Sodus) allowed one hit over three shutout innings with two strikeouts to record the save. Rodriguez was 2-for-2 with two RBI, and Bailey was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for FLCC.
The Lakers have a home and home series with Corning Community College this weekend. FLCC hosts Corning for a doubleheader at noon on Saturday before traveling to Corning for a doubleheader starting at noon on Sunday.
