CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College baseball team extended its winning streak to six games on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Corning Community College in a doubleheader at FLCC's turf complex.
It was the Lakers third straight doubleheader sweep.
FLCC (7-1) picked up a 4-3 win in game one, then completed the sweep with an 8-1 triumph over the Red Barons (2-3) in the nightcap.
In game one, sophomore Lukas Haefner (Henrietta, NY/Rush Henrietta) was 2-for-4 with an RBI, freshman Grant Rodriguez (Henrietta, NY/Rush Henrietta) went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Freshman classmate Jim Marasco (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) delivered an RBI single as the Lakers took a 2-0 lead into the second inning.
Corning trimmed the lead to 2-1 in the top of the third, but the Lakers responded with RBI singles from freshman Lucas Sulimowicz (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and Haefner in the fourth inning. Leading 4-3 entering the top of the seventh, sophomore Alex Savory (Sodus, NY/Sodus) closed the door on Corning with a 1-2-3 inning.
Freshman Tanner Frank (Brighton, NY/Brighton) allowed two unearned runs on one hit with five strikeouts to earn the win in the opener.
In game two, Rodriguez was 3-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base, freshman Alfredo Hurtado (Davie, FL/Caminade-Madonna College Preparatory) went 3-for-3 with two RBI, and sophomore Quin Ignaszak (Brockport, NY/Brockport) allowed one run with four strikeouts over six innings to earn the win.
The Lakers travel to Corning for a doubleheader starting at noon on Sunday before returning home to host Herkimer College for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
