CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College baseball team saw its six-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday afternoon as the Lakers dropped both games of a doubleheader to Herkimer College at FLCC's turf complex.
FLCC (7-3) fell by scores of 12-3 in game one and 4-2 in game two vs. the Generals (5-1).
In game one, freshman Jim Marasco (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI singles, classmate Drew Bailey (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, freshman Tim McClare (Macedon, NY/Gananda) was 2-for-2 with a triple, and freshman Alfredo Hurtado (Davie, FL/Caminade-Madonna College Preparatory) went 1-for-3 with an RBI single for FLCC.
The second game was scoreless until freshman Grant Rodriguez (Henrietta, NY/Rush Henrietta) laced a two-run single into right field to put the Lakers up 2-0 in the bottom of the third. The Lakers held that two-run advantage until the top of the fifth, when the Generals scored four times to seize control and pull away for the win.
McClare allowed four runs on five hits with seven strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings, while sophomore Alex Savory (Sodus, NY/Sodus) pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings with three hits and three strikeouts for the Lakers.
The Lakers embark on a home and home doubleheader series with Monroe Community College this weekend. FLCC travels to MCC for a Friday doubleheader starting at 2 p.m., then hosts MCC Saturday in a doubleheader starting at noon.
