CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - In the teams' last matchup, the Thunderwolves would hand the Lakers one of two losses in Little Falls, N.Y., ending their Region III championship run in the double-elimination round. The team entered today's matchup against the Thunderwolves looking to hold an advantage in the season series. However, some stout defensive plays and pitching ultimately led to a doubleheader sweep, in favor of the Thunderwolves.
Game 1
Devin Georgetti (Rochester, N.Y./ Gates-Chili) would earn the start on the pitcher's mound, putting together an impressive 7 innings of play, allowing 1 earned run on a total of 4 hits. Georgetti would pick up 7 strikeouts on the day. Despite a strong performance at the mound, the Lakers struggled to string together scoring opportunities, with Devin Kelly (Clifton Springs, N.Y./ Midlakes) and Alfredo Hurtado (Davie, F.L./ Chaminade Madonna College Prep) would combine for 2 hits on the game to round out game 1.
A Thunderwolves left-field single in the top of the 3rd inning proved to be the decisive run of the game, en route to a tight 1-0 victory in favor of Niagara County Community College.
Game 2
The Lakers hitting struggles extended into game two, with the Lakers designated hitter Tim McClare (Macedon, N.Y./ Gananda) tallying the lone hit in the column. A 3-run 1st-inning would give the Thunderwolves the 3-0 advantage, before extending that lead in the 5th-inning with 5 runs to make it 8-0. The Thunderwolves would cap the game off in the 7th inning with 1 run to seal the 9-0 victory and a doubleheader sweep.
The Lakers will regroup and look ahead to a rematch with the Thunderwolves on Saturday, April 23rd when the Lakers will travel to Niagara County Community College for a 1 PM/3:30 PM doubleheader.
