Lakers Rally Late, Then Roll Past Onondaga for Sweep

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – Game one featured a gritty comeback effort, as the Lakers erased a 3-2 deficit and fended off a late rally from Onondaga to claim an 8-7 win in extra innings. Trey Buchholz (Shinglehouse, PA./Bolivar Richburg) launched a 2-run inside-the-park home run to extend the lead in the sixth, while Brennen Russo (East Irondequoit, N.Y./Eastridge) delivered the game-winning RBI single in the eighth. Ethan Kuzma (Middleport, N.Y./Royalton-Hartland) doubled and scored twice, and Christian Morrison (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) added an RBI and scored the go-ahead run. Aiden Reed (Shortsville, N.Y./Red Jacket) earned the win in relief with a clean final inning.

Game two was all Lakers from the start. Caleb Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out 5 while allowing just 4 hits in five innings. Offensively, the Lakers poured on 10 runs, highlighted by a 2-RBI single from Connor Nguyen (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) to close out the win and RBI hits from Ethan Kuzma, Justin Angora (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta), Christian Morrison, and Nate Hill (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas). The Lakers scored in each inning and sealed the 10-0 mercy-rule win in five.

The Lakers improve to 14-8 overall, 2-2 conference, and will look to keep the momentum going in its next outing on the road on Tuesday, April 1st at Erie Community College. The Lakers will then close out their season series with the Lazers on Thursday, April 3rd at 2 PM at Onondaga.
