Lakers Baseball Set to Host Sub-Regional Showdown Against Cayuga

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes baseball team locked up the #2 seed in the Region III West standings and will welcome the #3 seed from the East, Cayuga Community College, to the FLCC Multi-use Turf on Saturday, May 10th. Game one is scheduled for 1 PM, with game two at 4 PM. If necessary, a deciding third game will be played at noon on Sunday, May 11th.

This marks the second meeting between the teams this season. Cayuga swept the regular season doubleheader at Falcon Park in Auburn, 14-4 and 9-8. The last time the teams met in sub-regional action was in 2022, when Finger Lakes rebounded from an opening loss to win the series and advance to the Region III Final Four in Little Falls, N.Y.

Offensively, the Lakers have leaned on a potent core. Joey Sanna (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) leads the team with a .407 average, followed closely by Brennen Russo (East Irondequoit, N.Y./Eastridge) at .397 and Markus Brehm (Wayland, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton) at .376. Russo (40 RBIs), Brehm (39), and Sanna (35) top the team in run production. Russo and Brehm also share the team lead in home runs with 6 apiece, and rank first and second in stolen bases with 30 and 27, respectively.

On the hill, Nathan Power (Victor, N.Y./Victor) has recorded a team-best 7 wins, tied first in Region III, while Caleb Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas) has picked up 6 and leads all pitchers with 43 strikeouts. Ian Goodness (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) has been a key piece out of the bullpen, earning 2 saves on the year.

For those interested in attending, admission is free. Additionally, every game will be streamed live on the FLCC Lakers YouTube channel for those who are unable to attend.
