FLCC Esports Kicks Off Strong with Pre-Season Wins and Record-Setting Events

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - Things are looking strong for FLCC Esports heading into their Fall 2024 season as they wrap up the last week of pre-season matches. With a combined 14 wins already in two weeks of play, the potential for new records to be set grows as the teams begin their regular season.

The Tekken 8 team kicked off last week with Andrei Cambell winning over his teammate Brayden Noteware. Ben Johnson secured a victory against SW Wisconsin, and Josh Crawford came out on top against Penn Highlands.

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team competed on Tuesday, with Isaac Marchitell and Caden Giardini claiming wins over Jefferson CC and State Tech, respectively. Joseph Yates, aiming for another championship title in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe this season, pulled out a close victory over the Tier 2 champion from Seward County.

The Valorant team wrapped up the week with a hard-fought win over St. Clair. The team of incoming freshmen, led by returning leaders Francesca Dean and Nick Reifsnyder, is already shaping up to go far in their league.

In addition to competing, Esports partnered with Capes Club, the honors club on campus, to host their annual September Smash Bash on Saturday, September 21st. Organized by the program's Leadership Team, the event featured a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament, board games, crafts, food, and more. This year's event set attendance records for Esports and saw Isaac Marchitell take first place in the tournament, with Josh DiMaggio in second and Austin Statkus in third.

With several wins already secured, the teams are eager to compete this semester. Fans interested in keeping up with the Lakers and hearing live commentary from student leadership can tune in to the FLCC Esports Twitch channel at twitch.tv/FLCCeSports to catch all the action and show their support.
