Lakers Pick Up Win; Improve to 4-5
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College Men's Basketball team came into today's matchup against the Timberwolves of SUNY Adirondack, at 3-5, looking to find a win. The Lakers did just that, coming out on top over the Timberwolves, 80-64. The Lakers fought back-and-forth with the 0-8 Timberwolves, who played an oustandingly tough game against the Lakers.
Sophomore Jevonte Williams (Rochester, N.Y./ Rush Henrietta), one of the Lakers most consistent contributors, led the Lakers, adding 21 points on 9 for 20 shooting. Williams also dished out 2 assists to help setup his teammates and pulled down 2 offensive rebounds. On the defensive end, he helped keep the Timberwolves at bay, pulling in 3 steals on the afternoon.
Lakers Sophomore Ben Waterman (Savannah, N.Y.) had a day for the Lakers, getting a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Waterman pulled down 7 rebounds on the offensive end and 6 on defense. Waterman added to the Lakers defensive performance, grabbing 3 steals on the day.
The Lakers saw the ball fall, with 9 different Lakers getting a basket on the afternoon.
Freshman Austin Franklin (Hunstville, A.L./ Prince George) got the start for the Lakers and made the most of his opportunity. Franklin added 10 points, 1 rebound and grabbed 1 steal. Teammate CJ James (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) came up big on the boards again, pulling down 12 rebounds. James also contributed on the defensive end, blocking 3 shots on the day, while pulling in 1 steal to add to his total.
The Lakers saw contributions from the bench as well, as Freshman Devon Payton (Rochester, N.Y./ Gates Chili) and Juwan Hall (Chester, S.C./ Chester) proved to provide a spark on offense and defense. Payton added 4 points and dished out 2 assists on offense, while also pulling down 4 rebounds and grabbing 2 steals. Hall was able to make the most of his time off from the bench, scoring 9 points and grabbing 2 steals as well.
The Lakers look to build off from a good win and carry over some of the positives of the match into their next contest. The Laker return to play after Thanksgiving break, on December 2nd in a Region III matchup with the Panthers of Tompkins-Cortland Community College at 7:30 P.M.
