Men's Basketball Earns Key Conference Win at Home
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team earned a key win over SUNY Broome Community College in a conference matchup on the Putt Moore Court at FLCC. The Lakers improved to 7-11 (5-5) with a 77-67 win over the Hornets.
Freshman Jaquan Shears (Rochester, N.Y./Monroe) led the Lakers with a stellar performance, scoring 24 points on 11-18 shooting, including a three-pointer and a pair of fastbreak dunks to shift the momentum in a back-and-forth game. Shears also contributed 7 rebounds and 4 assists to play a crucial role in the team's flow throughout the game. Sophomore Slayde Huntley (Herrin, IL./Herrin) provided a 16-point outing, highlighted by a 4-for-8 shooting performance from beyond the arc.
Freshman James Reaves Jr. (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) added 15 points, efficiently shooting 5-for-7 from the field, including 2 three-pointers. Reaves Jr. added 3 rebounds and 2 assists to his tally to wrap up a strong overall performance. Teammate Andrew Edwards-Ferrell (Rochester, N.Y./U Prep) was key to the Lakers' win with an all-around game. Edwards Ferrell added 7 points and 11 assists to his total, while also picking up 5 steals and 1 block on the defensive end to wrap up an impressive game.
Freshman Jace Brown (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek) added 8 points and 9 rebounds, while Bruce Wilder Jr. (Rochester, N.Y./Fairport) and Jaiden Burlee (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne) provided strong minutes off the bench with 5 and 2 points, respectively.
The Lakers will prepare for their fourth-consecutive conference matchup on Wednesday, January 24th against SUNY Jefferson Community College. The two teams will tip off at 7 PM on the Putt Moore Court at FLCC.
