CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - It was an all-around team effort that guided the Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team to their second-consecutive victory in a 76-68 finale against the visiting SUNY Jefferson Cannoneers.
Jaquan Shears (Rochester, N.Y./Monroe) added 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals to his tally, while teammate James Reaves Jr. (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) led the scoring, putting up 17 points, including 2 three-pointers. Classmate Jace Brown (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek) complemented the Lakers offense with 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting. Brown made his presence felt in the paint, pulling down 7 rebounds and blocking a shot.
Sophomore Andrew Edwards-Ferrell (Rochester, N.Y./U Prep) showcased his prowess on the boards, pulling down 15 rebounds and adding 6 points to his tally. Edwards-Ferrell was active on defense, picking up 2 steals and a block to wrap up a productive night. Teammate Slayde Huntley (Herrin, IL./Herrin) added 12 points to the Lakers' tally, knocking down two shots from beyond the arc. Bruce Wilder Jr. (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) provided valuable minutes off the bench, scoring all 9 of his points in the final 10 minutes of the game on 4-for-7 shooting, including a dagger three-pointer to give the Lakers a 2-point lead with under 10 minutes left in the second half.
The team will prepare for a pair of home games this Saturday, January 27th, and Sunday, January 28th at 2 PM. The Lakers will welcome the SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves to campus on Saturday, before facing off against the Vikings of Hudson Valley Community College on Sunday.
