HENRIETTA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team faced a challenging start to their season, falling to Monroe Community College with a final score of 87-54. Despite the Lakers' holding a sizable early lead, the Tribunes strong defense and rebouding would make the difference.
The Lakers started strong, with returners Bruce Wilder Jr. (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), James Reaves Jr. (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena), and Jace Brown (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek) leading the charge. However, Monroe capitalized on turnovers and maintained a steady lead throughout the game. James Reaves Jr. led FLCC in scoring, contributing 12 points and adding five rebounds. Off the bench, Jayden Freeman (Brighton, N.Y./Brighton) added 10 points on an efficient 4-5 shooting, while Kellen Foster (Newark, N.Y./Newark) made his presence known on the boards with seven rebounds.
Monroe's defense forced the Lakers into 24 turnovers, making it difficult for the Lakers to establish rhythm on offense.
