CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought game to North Country, 66-60. Despite a strong performance from Anthony Torres (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva), the Lakers couldn't overcome their shooting struggles and turnovers against a solid Saints squad.
Anthony Torres led the Lakers with 23 points, shooting 9-24 from the field and adding 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals in another well-rounded effort. Jace Brown (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek) was effective off the bench in his first game of the second semester, contributing 12 points and 6 rebounds, while Brian Whitley (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) added a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, anchoring the Lakers in the paint.
Kellen Foster (Newark, N.Y./Newark) chipped in with 9 points and 3 rebounds, but the team struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 22.2% (4-18), and from the free-throw line, where they converted only 57% of their attempts. North Country capitalized on the Lakers' 14 turnovers and maintained control with efficient shooting and strong defensive pressure.
The Lakers worked hard on the boards, securing 41 rebounds, including 10 offensive, but the lack of scoring consistency and costly turnovers proved to be the difference.
The Lakers will have a quick turnaround with a 1 PM matchup tomorrow, January 19th at home against the Clinton Community College Cougars.
