CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team took care of business at home on Thursday, defeating the Cannoneers of SUNY Jefferson 83-67. An up-tempo style of offense, paired with an aggressive style of defense, helped the Lakers reach their 6th victory of the season.

Scoring was distributed quite evenly, with 5 different Lakers ending in double-digit points. Both Brian Whitley (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and Jace Brown (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek) were active in multiple departments, as Whitley finished with a team-high 17 points and 9 rebounds, while Brown had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Brown also finished with 6 blocks.

Anthony Torres (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) made his team-high 39 minutes worthwhile, as he ended with 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Kellen Foster (Newark, N.Y./Newark) was also effective in multiple departments with 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals, while Joe Caito (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) provided a spark off the bench with 11 points on 4-6 shooting.

Not only did the Lakers clean up the glass with 56 total rebounds, but they were able to turn defense into offense, with 20 of their 83 points coming off of turnovers. Moreover, 55% of their total points came from inside the paint, showing that they can score on multiple levels.

The Lakers will travel to Dryden, N.Y. for their next matchup, where they will face off against the Panthers of Tompkins Cortland Community College on January 25th at 3 PM.
