Lakers Fall in Double Overtime Thriller at TC3, 88-86

DRYDEN, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team came up just short in a heart-breaking 88-86 double-overtime loss to Tompkins Cortland Community College. Despite a balanced offensive effort, including five players scoring in double figures, and clutch plays down the stretch, the Lakers were unable to secure the win in a grueling battle.

Brian Whitley (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) delivered a standout performance, recording a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while shooting an efficient 7-10 from the field and 6-8 from the free-throw line. Anthony Torres (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) added 13 points and facilitated the offense with a team-high 10 assists, marking his second double-double of the season.

Kellen Foster (Newark, N.Y./Newark) led the Lakers in scoring with 18 points, connecting on 3 three-pointers, while Jace Brown (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek) chipped in with 16 points and 6 rebounds, continuing his consistent production in the post. Bruce Wilder Jr. (Rochester, N.Y./Fairport) contributed 10 points and 8 rebounds, providing toughness on the boards. Off the bench, Joe Caito (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua added a spark with 7 points, including a key basket in overtime, on 3-4 shooting.

The Lakers shot 45% from the field and pulled down 48 rebounds, including 11 on the offensive glass, to create second-chance opportunities. However, 25 turnovers proved costly in a game that came down to the wire.

Both teams traded leads in a back-and-forth battle that saw the Lakers fight their way into two extra periods. TC3 capitalized on key free throws and late defensive stops to edge out the win.

Finger Lakes (6-11, 3-4 conference) will look to rebound on Wednesday, January 29th, when they travel to face Genesee Community College at 7 PM.
