Lakers Drop Season Opener to Generals

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers men's lacrosse team opened up their season with a matchup against the Herkimer County Community College Generals. The Lakers season opener would not go as planned against the Generals, as they would fall by a score of 22-8.

Despite taking an early 1-0 lead, and narrowly trailing the Generals 7-2 at the end of the first, the Lakers would drop to 0-1 in the early season.

Goalie Caleb George-Cady (Newark, N.Y./Newark) highlighted all Lakers performers with 23 saves, but despite a strong effort, was not enough to lift the team over the opposition.

On offense the Lakers were led on the attack by Matthew McKay (Rochester, N.Y./ Irondequoit) with 3 goals and 1 assist and William Croft (Newark, N.Y./ Newark) who tied McKay's goal total with 3 against the Generals.

Offensively, the Lakers would find early success, but scoring opportunities would become scarce in the second half of the game.

Attack man AJ Golden (Walworth, N.Y./ Gananda) helped set his teammates up for success, dishing out 3 assists, a team high. Canandaigua grads Tre Lloyd (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) and Charlie Cheney (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) rounded out the scoring for the Lakers with a goal apiece, while Cheney would chip in 2 assists as well.

The Lakers hit the field next against the TC3 Panthers on the road on March 17th at 4 PM. The Lakers will use their season opener as a learning experience heading into their matchup against a Panthers squad who is yet to play. The Lakers will hold the advantage, with a game under their belt in the Panthers season opener.
