Cheney Nets Hat Trick in Regional Loss

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The FLCC men's lacrosse team faced off against the Hudson Valley Community College Vikings in what turned out to be a lopsided NJCAA Region III matchup at the Lakers multi-use turf facility. Despite putting in a valiant effort, the Lakers were unable to overcome the Viking's offensive attack, resulting in a final score of 24-4 in favor of Hudson Valley.

The Lakers offense had some notable performances, with Charlie Cheney (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) leading the way with an impressive hat trick, scoring three goals in the game. Fellow Canandaigua alumnus Tre Lloyd (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) contributed with a goal and an assist, while Gavin Pentland (Palmyra, N.Y./ Palmyra-Macedon) and Gabe Stewart (Penn Yan, N.Y./ Penn Yan) each had a shot on goal. The Lakers struggled to find shots on net fueled by a scrappy Vikings defense.

Defensively, FLCC was led by goaltender Caleb George-Cady (Newark, N.Y./ Newark), who faced a barrage of shots from the Viking's offense, making an impressive 24 saves in the game. Daniel DiSalvo (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) worked hard at the faceoff, winning 10 for the Lakers. Gabe Brugellis (Goshen, N.Y./ Goshen), Kyle Hoesterey (Palmyra, N.Y./ Palmyra-Macedon), and Jon Nicholson (Hartwick, N.Y./ Cooperstown) contributed with ground balls and caused turnovers to lead the Lakers on defense.

Despite the outcome, the Lakers remain focused and determined to pick up their first win of the season and will have a chance to do so next Wednesday, April 19th when the team travels to Mohawk Valley Community College for a showdown with the Hawks. The winless Hawks will look to scrap for their first win of the season in the matchup as well, sitting at 0-5 on the season.
