Lakers Runaway With Win on the Road

UTICA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's lacrosse team made waves in Utica, N.Y. Wednesday night in their road matchup with the host Hawks from Mohawk Valley Community College. Finger Lakes dominated from the start in route to a 21-3 lopsided victory over the Hawks. The Lakers win was thanks in part to several student-athletes putting up career performances.

The Lakers were led on offense by a three headed monster of AJ Golden (Walworth, N.Y./ Gananda)Charlie Cheney (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua), and Matthew McKay (Rochester, N.Y./ Irondequoit). Golden and Cheney would put up career performances with 7 goals apiece in the game. Golden and Cheney's performances would tie the mark for the 3rd most goals in a game. Attackmen Matthew McKay would net a goal and dish out 7 assists to put himself into the record books, tying the record for 3rd most assists in a game.

Offensively, sophomore Tre Lloyd (Cananadaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) would have a career game with 4 goals and 5 assists to add to the team's offensive onslaught. Other scorers for the Lakers included Leo Saladino (Penfield, N.Y./ Penfield) and Jon Nicholson (Hartwick, N.Y./ Cooperstown) with 1 goal apiece.

On defense, freshman goalie Caleb George-Cady (Newark, N.Y./ Newark) put the team on his back, making 20 saves on 23 shots; allowing only 3 goals on a 87% save percentage in the net.

The Lakers move to 1-5 on the season with the win and will carry their momentum into a matchup on the road with the nationally ranked #3 Onondaga Community College Lazers this Saturday, April 22nd at 12pm.
