Golden's Record-Tying Performance Leads Lakers to Victory

AURORA, N.Y. - It was an exhilarating season finale for the Lakers men's lacrosse team as they faced off against the Wells College Express on the road. The game turned out to be quite special, with sophomore AJ Golden (Walworth, N.Y./Gananda) making history by tying a program record set by Scott Constable back in 2009. Golden's performance saw him score an impressive 9 goals, matching Constable's record against Genesee CC over a decade ago.

The Lakers offense was in top form throughout the game. Tre Lloyd (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) played a crucial role, contributing 2 goals and an impressive 4 assists, while Charlie Cheney (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) added 2 goals and 2 assists to his tally. Sophomore Matthew McKay (Irondequoit, N.Y./Irondequoit) rounded out the scoring for the Lakers, netting 6 goals and dishing out 2 assists.

In the goal, Caleb George-Cady (Newark, N.Y./Newark) had 14 saves on 26 shots, holding the Express to 12 goals in the game.

The Lakers dominance continued on the field with Daniel DiSalvo (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) who had an impressive night in the face-off circle, winning 16 of 32 attempts.

In a span of 9 games, the Lakers amassed a total of 69 goals and 41 assists. AJ Golden emerged as the leading goal scorer for the Lakers, finding the back of the net 18 times throughout the year. Following closely behind, Matthew McKay secured an impressive 16 goals and solidified his position as the Lakers points leader with a total of 31, thanks to his contribution of 15 assists. Charlie Cheney concluded the season with 15 goals and 6 assists to his name, while Tre Lloyd wrapped up the campaign with 13 goals and 10 assists, accumulating a commendable 23 points.

The Lakers conclude their season on a high note, with a dominant win over the Express and will look to build on their season heading into 2024.
