CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's lacrosse team dropped their fourth straight game on Wednesday evening as they lost to Hudson Valley Community College 19-6.
Hudson came away with the first two goals, before Dakota Bajdas (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) struck gold on a find from Phillip Love (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse) to cut the deficit in half. The Vikings would score five straight to end the first quarter, but the Lakers' defense stood tall in the next 15 minutes and held them to only one goal. As the opening half concluded, Bajdas answered back with two of his own to notch the first hat trick of his career.
Dillon Robinson (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) opened up the third quarter with an unassisted strike, and Keon Anderson Jr. (Victor, N.Y./Victor) built on that three minutes later as he scored on a clean feed from Matt Cheney (Phelps, N.Y./Midlakes). Unfortunately for the Lakers, their momentum would be put to a halt as Hudson tightened up on defense and held them scoreless for the rest of the third and much of the fourth quarter, with Christopher Cangemi (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) scoring the last goal of the game in the final two minutes.
Despite achieving their season-high in goals, the Lakers were unable to come out with a victory. Hudson pulled away in the second half, courtesy of their high-octane offensive attack led by Damien Santiago, Bryce Morin, and Seamus Camenga – who all finished with hat tricks. Nicholas Schmitz (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) and Isaac Pundt (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse) contributed to the Lakers' defensive attack well, while goalie Blake Wells (Scranton, P.A./Abington Heights) played the full 60 and put on a nice showing in net as he faced 33 shots and saved 14.
The Lakers are in for an extended break, as their next faceoff takes place on Wednesday, March 26th at 4 PM against the Cannoneers of Jefferson Community College at the FLCC multi-use turf.
