CANANDAIGUA -- Members of the Men's and Women's Soccer teams participated in a soccer clinic on August 20th at the Bristol Hills 4-H Camp. The clinic was sponsored by the Migrant Education System.

The Migrant Education System runs a retreat for youth that is a combination of ropes courses, power and difference workshops and sports. The retreat focuses on teaching building trust, community, communication, identity, understanding and how power and difference operate in the United States. The state-wide program helps with necessary academic, social, and health services. There are 11 projects that operate out of SUNY campuses or BOCES and school district facilities.

The clinic had boys and girls from the ages of 12-17 participating in skills and drills led by the Lakers players. "This was a great opportunity for our men's and women's soccer teams to participate in a service event in our community," said Assistant Athletic Director Bethany Schlegel. "An opportunity such as this one shows that there are many lessons that sport teaches and our men's and women's soccer teams were very excited to be a part of such a great event. "

Finger Lakes Community College supports all teams reaching out to the community, following true to the Athletics Mission Statement. "Our program strives to instill the values of leadership and citizenship and provides each student athlete with the necessary resources to reach his or her maximum potential."
