Lakers Fall to Dragons 3-1

CANANDAIGUA -- The Finger Lakes Men's Soccer team fell on Saturday to Howard Community College by the score of 3-1. The Lakers are now 1-2 on the season.

The Dragons controlled the play for most of the first half. The had 10 total shots in the frame, six on goal. Brian Arcara was able to stop five of those, but Howard was able to break through with under five minutes in the half for the 1-0 lead.

The Lakers would strike fast in the second half to tie the game. In the 49th minute, Corey Nash took a free kick from the left side of the field. He bent the ball into the box. Ashley Waine would direct the ball in the box to his left towards Kaleb Schaner. The freshman from Victor would finish the play inside the near post to tie the game 1-1. Howard would respond, however, 10 minutes later as they took the lead back, 2-1. Finger Lakes would surrender an own goal in the 71st minute as Howard went on to win 3-1.

The goal was Schaner's first of his college career. Brian Arcara made six saves in net for Finger Lakes.

The Lakers play the second half of the Kickoff Classic on Sunday as they face the Saints of Mercyhurst North East. Mercyhurst lost to Mohawk Valley 3-2 earlier this afternoon. The Lakers vs. Saints game is set to kickoff around 3pm.
