Late Goal Lifts Lakers to Victory

CANANDAIGUA -- Corey Nash caused a turnover in the middle of the field and beat the Erie keeper for the 1-0 win on Wednesday. Finger Lakes kept streaking with the win. They have won 4 straight and have a 5-2 record overall. The Lakers are also unbeaten (3-0) in Region III play.

The Kats controlled most of the first half. The Lakers got one good attempt early on when David Pullen flicked the ball just in front of the Kats keeper. The ball would sail just wide however as the game remained scoreless. Overall, Erie outshot Finger Lakes 7-1 in the first half, but the game would remain scoreless at halftime.

The Lakers turned up the pressure in the second half. The would possess the ball more and cause more quality chances. In a physical game, they were able to apply pressure to the Kats for the full 45 minutes of the second half. They broke through in the 86th minute. Corey Nash stole the ball in the middle of the field. After a few quick dribbles, he was at the top of the box and beat the goalie low and left for the 1-0 lead. It was the second game-winning goal of the season for Nash, both scored in the last 10 minutes of the game. Finger Lakes had to defend a last minute corner kick by the Kats but were able to clear it for the 1-0 win.

Brian Arcara was in net for the Lakers and recorded his second shutout of the season. The sophomore made six saves in the game.

The Lakers now have a week off before they travel to Utica, NY to take on Mohawk Valley Community College. Kickoff with the Hawks is set for 3pm.
