UTICA — Traveling to face the nationally-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College men's soccer team in the 2021 season opener, Finger Lakes Community College pulled off a 3-2 victory over the No. 4 Hawks Saturday afternoon at Proctor Stadium.
Freshman Evan Stevely (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) scored two goals and classmate Russell Domm (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) handed out a pair of assists to spark the Lakers (1-0) past the Hawks.
Freshman Kayden Servais (Holley, N.Y./Holley) added a goal while freshman Chuck Domm (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) had an assist for FLCC. Classmate Mike Rasciatore (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) made seven saves to preserve the win, including a diving first-half save that kept the game scoreless.
The Lakers took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but Mohawk Valley scored twice in a span of 90 seconds to seize a 2-1 lead with 22:37 remaining in the second half. Russell Domm served in a ball off a set piece to feed Servais for the tying goal with about 20 minutes to play, then Chuck Domm played a through ball in to Stevely, who buried the game-winning goal with 10:27 remaining.
The Lakers return home for five straight games at their turf facility, beginning with a 7 p.m. clash vs. Bryant & Stratton College-Rochester Saturday evening.
