CANANDAIGUA — The Finger Lakes Community College men's soccer team struck early and held a 1-0 lead against undefeated and nationally-ranked Genesee Community College Tuesday afternoon, but the Lakers wound up falling 5-1 to the Cougars at FLCC's turf facility.
Freshman Russell Domm (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) staked the Lakers (5-5) to a 1-0 lead on a strike off a feed from his brother, classmate Chuck Domm (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) in the sixth minute.
But the Cougars (7-0-1), ranked sixth in the latest NJCAA Division III rankings, responded with goals in the 32nd and 42nd minutes and took a 2-1 lead into intermission.
Freshman Mike Rasciatore (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) made eight first-half saves to keep it a one-goal game, and came out with another huge diving save with 38 minutes remaining in the game to maintain the 2-1 score.
But GCC would close the game out scoring three times during a span of 17 minutes to pull away for the win.
Rasciatore finished with 16 saves in 81 minutes in goal.
