Lakers Pick Up Conference Win

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – Finger Lakes Community College Men's Soccer picked up a win over Conference opponent Tompkins Cortland Community College, 4-1 Sunday afternoon.

The Lakers combated the elements, with rain hitting the pitch early in the first half. The Lakers did not let it affect them, scoring an even 2 goals in the first half and 2 in the second. Freshman Evan Stevely (Rochester, N.Y./ Bishop Kearney) struck early, putting the Lakers ahead 1-0 in the 11'.   

The Panthers of Tompkins Cortland CC tied the game in the 23' to put the pressure on the Lakers. However, the Lakers quickly struck back when Sophomore Carson DeVinney (Perry, N.Y./ Perry) fed Stevely for his 2nd goal of the half and DeVinney's first assist of the day in the 34'. The Lakers closed out the first half with a 2-1 lead. 

The Panthers battled the entirety of the game, not making it easy for the Lakers. After a scoreless 33 minutes, Freshman Chuck Domm (East Rochester, N.Y./ East Rochester) extended the Lakers lead 3-1 in the 67'. Domm added to his total in the 83' off a feed from DeVinney, giving him his 2nd goal of the game. DeVinney finished with 2 assists on the afternoon as the Lakers improved to 8-4 and 4-1 in conference play.

The Lakers return to the pitch Wednesday, Oct. 6th when they travel to Niagara County Community College for a 4 P.M. match.
