Early Goal Proves Decisive in Close Match

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's soccer team hosted the visiting Panthers from Tompkins Cortland Community College Saturday afternoon. The Lakers who have struggled to find the evasive first win of the season looked at the matchup as an opportunity to finally find that win.

Freshman Lautaro Brehm (Martinez, Buenos Aires/ Instituto Maria Auxiliadora) found the back of the net in the 8th minute off from a set piece from Sophomore Schuyler Cole (North Rose, N.Y./ North Rose-Wolcott) to put the Lakers up 1-0. However, the Panthers were quick to strick back, as they would score the equalizer just 2 minutes later. The Panthers would again find the back of the net in the 29th minute to give them a 2-1 advantage.

Despite several close attempts, the Lakers would fail to find the tying goal, and the Panthers would walk about with the 2-1 victory and improve to 2-9 on the year.

Freshman Donovan Youmans (Addison, N.Y./ Addison) earned the start in net, playing all 90 minutes and making 6 saves on 8 shots on goal. The Lakers hit the road for their next match, as they will travel to Niagara County Community College on October 12th for a 4 PM contest. The team will then find themselves at home for their regular-season finale against the Kats of Erie Community College on Wednesday, October 19th at 6:30 PM.
