Lakers Drop Regional Match on the Road

TROY, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's soccer team traveled to Hudson Valley Community College Saturday afternoon for a NJCAA Region III match on the Vikings home pitch. Two early goals would prove too much for the Lakers as they would fall 4-2 in the match and 1-3 overall on the season.

Diego Reyna (Guatemala/ Billingue Vista Hermosa) earned his third start of the season in goal and made 3 saves in 90'. The Lakers' first strike of the day would come off the foot of freshman Juan Mercado Cano (Toluca, Mexico/ Unitec) who would convert on a penalty kick opportunity, netting his first goal of the season. The Lakers' second goal of the match would come in the second half when Vojtech Bartosek (Prague, Czech Republic/ Anglicko-Ceske Gymnazium Amazon) took the ball up the middle of the pitch unassisted for his first goal of the season as well.

Despite a late push, the Lakers' efforts would fall short. The team will enjoy a week's break between matches as their next match is not until Saturday, September 9th when the team travels to SUNY Adirondack for a 3 PM kickoff.
